DeTour Area Birding Locations

Incredible warbler displays can be found at most of the coastal locations in this area in the spring and fall. The roadside park and DeTour State Forest Campground are exceptional migrant hotspots. The summer warbler viewing is also superb at the Gerstacker Preserve. In addition to birds the DeTour zone offers viewing opportunities of a number of rare plants including around 20 species of orchids and all three of Michigan’s coastal endemic flowers (Pitcher’s Thistle, Houghton’s Goldenrod, and Dwarf Lake Iris).
