Drummond Island: Township Park and Heritage Trail

Directions
Continue on E. Channel Road/M-134 east for 2 miles from Pike Bay Road. Turn left (northeast) onto Township Park Road. Drive approximately .5 miles till you reach the park. At the park entrance one can view Lake Huron. At the back end of the camping sites one can access the Heritage Trail (see linked map). Alternatively the trail can be accessed at a trail head on Township Park Road about .2 miles from M-134. Birding Opportunities This is a great place to check for migrating flocks of Warblers in the spring and fall. The campground and trail that runs along the lake has great potential to be a migration hotspot for Black-throated Green Warblers, Blackburnian Warblers, American Redstart, Ovenbird and many more. In addition Pileated Woodpeckers can be found here in all seasons. The water overlooks provide an additional chance to view Common and Caspian Terns along with other waterfowl such as Common and Red-breasted Mergansers. The woodland trail cuts through a thick area of cedar and pine forests providing views of pristine wilderness habitat. Other Exciting Features The Township Park can accommodate RV’s as well as tents. The park is considered primitive. with 48 total sites, 30 with electric and most on the water. The park has a beach, boat launch, two nature trails, and offers amazing sunsets. There are two wells for water and outhouses. There are no showers in park, but they are available in town. It is a first come, first served park, no reservations required. You can elect to use the park on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. The township park is just one of the many great places to stay on Drummond Island.
